New Archery Products, NAP, is among the first
archery manufacturers to recognize that the Crossbow
market may need specialized equipment, not just
something carried over from bow market. Recently
Forest Park, IL based manufacturer introduced two
new "Magnum" broadheads
The new Thunderhead Magnum weights 175 grains that
help shifting the balance of the short crossbow bolt
toward the front end. This helps in making the arrow
more sable.
Of course a heavier point will increase the arrow
total mass , this will slow down the arrow a bit
(assuming you do not change the shaft) but this in
turn will make the crossbow more efficient and
quieter.
NAP in order to create the new broadhead replaced
the aluminum ferrule with a new steel one. Given the
durability of the standard one I expect the newer to
be almost indestructible.
The new Spitfire Magnum is a different design, being
a Open on Impact model, but follows the same
philosophy: it is in fact a 175 grains design.
