We had a chance to talk with Phil Abrahams, owner of the English company Talisman Crossbows, about his latest creation : the Talisman Mantis.

Just a couple of works about Talisman Crossbows:
Talisman is an English company located a few miles south of Bristol in western England.
The company, since its inception, always distinguished itself for the very personal style of its creations.

Talisman crossbows are custom handmade crossbows built using high tech materials.

The Talisman Mantis is the latest design from Phil Abrahams and it is both traditional (you can really tell it is a Talisman) as well as revolutionary.

It is traditional in the sense that looking at it you get a sort of family feeling with other Talisman crossbows: the shapes, lines and design as well as the finish with lots of exposed and contrast color metal (aluminum and brass) are all there.

It is revolutionary because this time Mr. Abrahams got inspired with some high tech military tool for use by special operation teams (such as the British SAS), therefore it possess a unique set of features.

First off the bow can be mounted and shot in two different positions: horizontal just like any other crossbow and vertical (like a traditional bow) in order to allow shooter to use it in confined spaces.
The crossbow also uses a unique patented technology called Energy Wave Bow System. This system uses aerodynamically shaped metal limbs that do not flex, instead they are loaded by mechanical spring system that makes use of a special spring that provides over two tons of power. The result is an astonishing arrow speed. Crossbow poundage can also be set at 140 or 240 pounds, the Mantis also features an adjustable trigger.

The pics you see here are from the very first prototype as Talisman is working on the finalizing the design as well as the specs.
