Quality

By this time you have already read our report of the Armcross Factory visit so you know how much they do stress quality. Handling the LeoPro it is easy to recognize how deep is their quality commitment even in the smallest details. We tried to criticize every single piece but frankly it soon looked like an impossible feat.

The reinforced ABS stock molding is perfect: it show no sign of the parting line (where the two mould halves met) despite that being placed on a curved surface. The small texture on the stock is very nice to grip and gives a good effect on black (one of the standard colors) while it gives a 3D feeling to camo dipped finish (another color to chose from). The stock is mated to the main frame via screws that work on steel inserts instead of directly into the plastic molding as a guarantee of strength even after years of abuse.

The stok is finished in non glare black or in two designer camo (see Armcross web site for swatches) named RF-1 and RF-2 that will appeal hunters. The dipping is very well done even onto smaller details/undercut areas.

Most of the metal parts are milled from billet, high grade 7075 aluminum (not the more common and cheaper 6061) and are anodized in non glare black. Looking close enough will reveal the milling tool marks. Stressed components such as the limbs/riser mating is done again via steel inserts in order to distribute stress on a larger surface and provide a longer working life.

The trigger uses all steel components, works nice and crisp with a relatively short travel. The trigger pull is left plain, I would have preferred a grooved surface, but thanks to the curved shape the grip is fine. The trigger is factory set at an optimal 3lbs.

The safety is automatic meaning it automatically sets to safe every time you cock the crossbow, the engage/disengage lever is on both sides and can be operated with the thumb, that is you can set it to shoot position without changing your grip, keeping your index finger near the trigger, very important as you are in a hunting situation and you have already your game into the crosshair.

The scope mounted onto the test sample was the illuminated reticle model. It offers a very nice view without any noticeable distortion (sharp from edge to edge) and with good color rendition (no color dominant of sort). This model also offers the bonus of illuminated reticle for low light hunting/shooting situations, illumination can be set in both red and green.

Quality is also noticeable in many design aspects, more on this in the next chapters but consider that the stock is mated to the main frame without any visible screw: just look for this detail on any high end current crossbow and you’ll see why this LeoPro is a notch above the rest.
