Quality
The Barnett Revolution AVi at present is the
most expensive crossbow in Barnett’s lineup: at
$469.99 (at Cabelas.com ) for the package
version including scope, rings, bolts etc. it is
much cheaper than competition’s top of the line
models , not to mention TenPoint and Stryker
offerings that are well beyond $1500. The
question comes natural what do I miss here?
Let’s start from some good points.
-
Stock molding is done quite
well both in engineering and manufacture,
there are no sharp edges and the shapes are
well blended.
-
The thumbhole grip has enough
room to accommodate large hands gloved and
the pistol grip is fatter around the bottom
to help your hand zeroing toward the top.
-
The front handguard is
rather large and rounded that besides giving
a good grip will insure your finger will
stay away from the flight rail.
-
The flight rail is integral
with the stock , meaning is it made from the
same plastic compound. (You know I am not a
fan of plastic flight rails but here I must
admit the thing is engineered pretty well) :
the flight rail surface is arched therefore
the string contacts just a portion of it for
lower friction and less wear on the serving.
-
The surface is of the rail
is very smooth also to reduce wear, besides
that the material looks and feels quite
hard: I think this is due to the GAM molding
process injects gas into the mold to create
a hollow stock (to reduce weight) that has
the side effect of compressing the plastic
material creating a very dense compound.
-
Another interesting detail is
the cable slot, here Barnett engineers
applied a strip of low friction material
here.
-
The camouflage pattern is
painstakingly applied even around small
features, radiuses and small blend areas:
very well done.
-
The AVi limbs are well
designed and molded: the rubber material
that covers them is evenly applied and it is
soft and nice to touch with additional ribs
to dampen vibration.
-
All exposed metal is anodized
in non glare black
-
Bolts in the kit are made by
Easton (very good) and are fitted high
visibility moon nocks.
Some details however may deserve some more
attention:
-
The underside of the pistol
grip has no pommel-logo and shows some
molding imperfections (this is probably
where the gas of the GAM process comes out)
.
-
The two screws on the cheek
piece are not so nice to see, a cap here may
be used considering you will not change the
setup that often.
-
The arrow retention spring
makes lots of noise (see movie) a little
piece of rubber here will solve the problem.
-
Trigger is made of plastic
with smooth surface:
Barnett is
working on this and will soon replace the
plastic components with metal ones.
I think that in evaluating this crossbow you
must always keep in mind its price range: in
this light the Barnett Revolution AVi delivers a
terrific value!
